Thanks to our system, doctors are able to see the most ill patients first. Patients also have an increased chance of seeing their doctor of choice. We do have a number of advice calls available. The process is as follows:
For advice or an appointment with the doctor, contact us on the Appointments Line (01642 355 382) . If booking an appointment with the nurse or for bloods, this is completed in the traditional way. Advice calls are strictly for medical advice. If you are contacting us for a repeat fit note then the reception staff will deal with your request on the doctors behalf. Our reception staff are trained Care Navigators and as such they may direct you to a Pharmacist or other Health Professional who may be able to deal with your query more quickly.
The receptionist will ask you for the patient’s name and a contact number & a brief description of the problem. If you need to speak to the doctor urgently, because it’s an emergency, tell the receptionist straightaway.
The receptionist will ask you to say generally what your health problem is. You don’t have to tell the receptionist if you don’t want to, but if you can, it helps the doctor to decide whom to prioritise for a call back based on clinical need. Wherever possible the receptionist will try to arrange for you to speak to your chosen doctor.
Your doctor will call you back as soon as they can. Generally you will be called at a set time. You can then talk to your doctor about your health problem in the same way you do if you come into the surgery for your appointment. If the doctor thinks that a face-to-face appointment is still required, he or she will make an appointment for you.
